Privacy Policy

Gursha ("we," "our," or "us") is an Amharic language learning app operated by Donatellio, Inc., a Delaware corporation. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your choices.

1. Information we collect

Account information

When you create an account, we collect your email address and, if you sign in with Apple, the information Apple provides (which may include a relay email address). You may also choose to share a given name or display name with us.

Learning data

We store your progress — which lessons you've completed, exercise results, words and Fidel characters you've practiced, and related learning history — so your progress carries over between sessions and devices.

Messages and feedback

If you use in-app chat or submit feedback, we store the content you send (and related context such as which screen you were on) so we can respond, improve the product, and operate the learning experience.

Optional feedback screenshots

When you submit feedback from the mobile app, you may choose to include a screenshot of the current screen. Screenshots can show whatever is visible at that moment, including text you have entered. Including a screenshot is optional and controlled by a toggle on the feedback form. We do not capture screenshots on authentication, account (Me), or chat screens. If included, the screenshot is stored with your feedback and may be processed by an automated tool (including a third-party language model) to help us triage the report.

How feedback is handled internally

Feedback you submit (including any screenshot you choose to include) is emailed to the developer via our email service provider so it can be reviewed. Straightforward bug reports may also be logged as an issue in the developer's private internal issue tracker (hosted on GitHub) to track the fix — this tracker is private and not publicly visible, and we remove personally identifying information (such as usernames, email addresses, or account IDs) before logging an issue there.

Usage analytics

We use PostHog for product analytics (for example screen views, feature interactions, and session activity). When you are signed in, we may associate analytics events with your account identifier and email so we can understand usage across sessions. This helps us improve the app.

Push notifications

If you enable notifications, we collect a device push token so we can send reminders (for example a practice / streak reminder). You can turn notifications off in the app or in system settings.

Technical information

Our servers and providers may automatically receive technical data such as IP address, device type, operating system, and app version when you use Gursha.

2. How we use your information

We do not sell your personal information to third parties.

3. AI features

Some features use third-party artificial intelligence / language model providers (such as OpenAI) to generate or evaluate content. When you use those features, relevant inputs — for example chat messages, exercise answers, or opted-in feedback screenshots — may be sent to those providers to generate a response or help us triage feedback. We use these services to operate Gursha, not to sell your data.

AI-generated content can be incorrect or incomplete. Gursha is a learning aid and is not a substitute for professional translation or formal language instruction.

4. Data storage

Your account and learning data are stored using Supabase (database and authentication), typically on cloud infrastructure in the United States. Our application API is hosted on Railway. The marketing and web surfaces are hosted on Vercel.

5. Third-party services

Each of these providers has their own privacy policy governing how they handle data on our behalf.

6. Data retention

We retain your account and learning data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we remove your personal data within 30 days, except where we must retain limited information for legal, security, or abuse-prevention reasons.

7. Your rights

You may request to:

Where available in the app, you can delete your account from settings. You can also email us at support@gursha.dev to exercise these rights.

8. Children's privacy

Gursha is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The "last updated" date at the top will reflect any changes. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
